Aspirations

Dream big make it happen | Motivational Cards & Quotes ...

Green Gates Primary School is embarking on an exciting and life-changing project that will see children’s minds open and their aspirations soar. Our Raising Aspirations Project is designed to broaden our children’s horizons and help them discover the world of work. We want to demonstrate to children that no matter their background and gender, they can achieve. It is also about building their self-belief, their resilience and recognising their qualities and how they could be used in the workplace.

Visits and Visitors

During each half term, we will be inviting inspiring people from all walks of life to offer the children some insight in to their daily roles as members of the world of work. We are inviting guests who have a variety of professions and careers from a range of backgrounds, to allow all children the chance to see that there are opportunities for everyone and all they need to do is reach out and take them. The visitors will take part in assemblies and workshops to give our children some first-hand experience.

As well as the wonderful visitors, we are arranging for children across the school to visit some engaging workplaces in the local area that can offer some amazing career choices and raise our children’s aspirations. We want the children to recognise the link between hard work and success whilst understanding that anything can be achieved even in the most difficult circumstances.

Further Education

Green Gates Primary School already has wonderful links with universities from the northeast but we are expanding our links to include all further education settings. We are inviting local colleges and universities in to our school to speak to our children on a regular basis whilst also arranging visits to their campuses.

The Brilliant Club

Currently, we offer a select group of Year 5 and 6 children the chance to complete the Scholars Programme where they are able to work with highly qualified academics on projects and assignments. This opportunity is in connection to The Brilliant Club charity.

‘The Brilliant Club works with schools and universities across the UK. The charity exists to increase the number of pupils from underrepresented backgrounds progressing to highly-selective universities. We do this by mobilising the PhD community to share its expertise in state schools.’ – The Brilliant Club

Our children are given the chance to study like a student and take part in some thrilling studies such as ‘History: Invasion and Integration’. The programme is independently analysed by UCAS and shows that pupils on The Scholars Programme are significantly more likely to apply to, receive an offer from and progress to a highly selective university.

Positive Footprints

The Positive Footprints programme is all about raising aspirations and opening up the world of work. It shows children what careers are out there and the skills they’ll need to leave a positive footprint wherever they go in life.

It’s also about building their self-belief, their resilience, recognising their qualities and how they could be used in the workplace.

Pupils in Year 5 take part in this exciting programme.
