At Green Gates Primary School we recognise how important a successful transition is to all of our children.

New starters

We know that when your little one starts school for the first time, you want them to be happy and cared for. Here at Green Gates, we can assure you they will be and to ensure they have a settled start, we follow our transition arrangements each year. Before starting Reception, the children  are provided with numerous opportunities to meet their class teacher and visit their new classroom. Furthermore there is a parent information event where parents have the opportunity to visit the school and ask any questions, as well as the opportunity for the child and parent/carer to have lunch in school too.

In school transition

The whole school transitions into their new classes the week before the summer holidays. This means that the children get a whole week to get to know their new teacher, their new classroom and, in some circumstances, their new classmates. The week is always a huge success and the children begin their summer holidays happy.

Secondary School Transition

We work in partnership with local secondary schools to ensure that your child gets the very best start to their secondary education. We meet with staff from all of our feeder schools and the teachers who know your child best give them information with regards to their academic achievements, their personal achievements and friendships.

We also arranges an enhanced level of transition for those who we feel would benefit. This may take the form of additional visits for children or one to one/small group working with secondary school staff.

We are particularly keen to involve parents/carers as much as possible in their child’s transition to secondary school. School staff will take opportunities to work alongside parents/carers  in advance of secondary placement applications being submitted to the Local Authority.

This ensures parents/carers can make the most informed placement decision for their child. When a secondary school has been allocated to the child, parents/carers are fully involved and consulted at all stages of the transition process.
